Regular Rug Cleaning
As with any floor covering product, we highly recommend that you reference your area rug’s warranty for specific care requirements from your manufacturer.
Aside from that, regular vacuuming is the simplest way to help your rugs retain their beauty & extend their useful lifespan. In rooms that experience light to medium levels of foot traffic, we recommend vacuuming twice weekly. For areas that experience heavier foot traffic, daily vacuuming may be necessary.
Caring for Shag Rugs
Take care to protect the long, cable-like yarns when vacuuming your shag rugs. These long yarns tend to wrap around the beater bars of common vacuum cleaners, and vacuum brushes can damage the fibers. We recommend that you disconnect the beater bar completely to avoid this damage. Consult your vacuum cleaner owner’s manual for instructions.
With the beater bar disconnected, you should set your vacuum to the lowest height setting. This provides the best suction to suck up loose soil. You can also invest in a carpet rake to use on your rug. These simple devices serve to loosen the soil to make vacuuming more efficient.
Occasional Cleaning & Handling Spills
We recommend a periodic professional carpet cleaning using the hot water extraction method. You should have this done annually or even twice per year depending on the soil level. Never use bleach on your rugs, and don’t attempt to dry clean them.
Food & beverage spills should be cleaned immediately by blotting with a clean cloth. You can spot clean with a small amount of clear dishwashing detergent and warm water, rinsed with additional clean water and blotted dry with a clean cloth. Note that you should only blot – never rub or scrub!
